RYA Start Yachting

The RYA Start Yachting course is a 2 day introductory course for complete beginners. Tuition is on board of one of our cruising yachts. By the end of the course you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, rope work, and have an awareness of safety on board. This course is all about experiencing sailing in an enjoyable and relaxed way. Most likely, you will get bitten by the sailing bug, making this course the start of your new passion.

Course content

You will stay onboard for the duration of this 2 day course. During the course you will be working with your other crew members to learn sailing the yacht while also experiencing the beautiful scenery and harbours at our training locations at the Belgian coast or local Oosterschelde estuary and lakes.

The Start Yachting course will provide you with a good foundation and the confidence to start enjoying sail cruising.

Next steps and courses

After completing the Start Yachting course, you can go on to obtain a Competent Crew certificate by completing a further 3 days or 2 weekends of the Competent Crew course at our training centre.

Lots of hands-on experience

I took the Start Yachting course at C-MASTERS in Nieuwpoort. The instructor is a great teacher who allows you to get hands-on experience immediately. He will teach you anything from theory to practical application. As part of the two-day course, we stayed on board on the yacht overnight and enjoyed our meals. I'm excited to learn more with C-MASTERS again.

Definitely recommended !

It is a great sailing school. As I live in belgium, it is difficult to find practical sailing courses in English and C-MASTERS (NL) is in very close proximity and close to the border. I was aware of the theoretical background from other courses, and I can confirm that instructors are great and shared lots of good practical tips & tricks in simplified and easy to remember ways. It was a great experience doing my 2 days practical course.
